Is there any room for a 'general chat' type area?

Just that I was looking for somewhere to post a 'Merry Christmas Everyone' type thing and there isn't really anywhere suitable...

so it will have to be here!

Some sites want to stay on topic. If you have a general chat area, the site can become all about the odds and ends and the relevant areas become secondary. I can't speak for management here, but I suspect that's why it's setup this way.

That said, let me add my own Merry Christmas to all!

I'd be curious to hear how the management of this site feels about general chat areas. I've seen plenty of them, and I think in some of them, some of the topics covered are often related to the forum's topics.

I think I've seen examples where they weren't too distracting from the desired topics, as well as others where the focus of the forum or site seemed to be lost.

I think there are arguments both ways, but I also think management has made their decision by not offering one. It's amazing how people can try to insert off topic things anyway. I was just surfing somewhere else a bit earlier and people were doing introductions in a topic about money and debt. I don't get that. Maybe I'm just too structured. A forum is put up to deal with certain issues, so why not stick to those? There are plenty of general chat forums if that's what is preferred.

I think there can be a general chat area too..there is no harm in it as long as people are chatting about the topic of designing too.....when someone is regularly coming to the forum and asking various queries...it becomes a part of habit to just check the forum out even if you do not have any strong question or idea to share...on those times...general chat area might help....

Hi all, we'll be adding a general chat area soon, I think before Easter.

With a forum being this young, it is sort of dangerous to create to many forums at once, as it might leave topics very, very empty.
