TOPIC: Does updating my site’s copy help me rank better?

Does updating my site’s copy help me rank better? 1 year, 10 months ago #1469

I've read somewhere that if I update content often, it will really help me in the search engine rankings. Since I am an aspiring blogger, I'm really hoping this is true.

Okay, first of all, if a given page ranks well for your most important keywords, why would you 'update' the content? The page is clearly working well, and a change might actually hurt your rankings.

Just add pages, it keeps your site fresh, alive, and the more (optimized) content, the more people have a reason to surf your site.

Make sure that you have a 'what's new' section on your homepage, so that people can easily see the fresh content, and spiders find the new content by the simple act of crawling your homepage.
Always here when you need me. I am the forum administrator and a web designer for Online Design Bureau.

In the case of a format that's updated by daily or regular articles, would it work well to just have the most recent update at the top of the page, with the older ones progressing down the page and in some cases to other pages with older posts or articles?

I guess I'm asking if this would work as well as a proper "what's new" section?

I think Taggart..that is how most sites or blogs work...the new posts or articles on top followed by the older ones...but regarding renewing old posts...it will be good to have a new category altogether maybe as a widget that says...something like recent additions...that way people will know that you have added something to an already posted content or article...it also shows your thoroughness about an issue...

Yes, but she may be talking about adding fresh content. I read somewhere that blogs rank well when new content is added every day.

re-reading the first post, I too think that she may be asking about updating by writing new content regularly...which ofcourse is important to make your site visible...
