In a blog, is it worth spending time creating tags and categories for SEO purposes?

Google employee Matt Cutts answers the question:

an resounded no. He argues that categories offer benefits to the user, as they can follow your blog about one issue in particular. For the same reason, we offer tags, as it allows our users to drill down on an issue.

But if you are adding tags for SEO purposes, the answer is and remains: no, tags and categories will do you little good.

Matt Cutts explains:

Yes, it is one of the common myths out there. I know web design firms and SEO's who sell tags and categories as an SEO feature...

you are so right stav..if not for this post, atleast I would have never realised that tags do not help...and there are so many companies who sell their services..building your site reputation by adding tags...
