I had a call 2 days ago from a potential customer who mentioned the address in the voice message. It was in a neighborhood i dont want to work in. I didnt call her back

she called again tonight and i picked up this time. She complained how i didnt return her call. I asked her where she lived just in case i had misunderstood her voice message 2 days ago.

she refused to tell me the neighborhood and told me off.

i didnt handle it well.....i never got a call from the inner city before.

i explained to this customer how i was robbed and dont want to work in bad neighborhoods

i legally can refuse any customer or neighborhood i want to ...right?

Legally you can refuse a customer based on geography. I am sorry you had a difficult experience in the past. Life can be tricky at times...

I'd say, take the job. Quote them a high price, and outsource the job. That way, you still make a profit. If they don't want to accept the high price, you don't lose anything. If they do accept it, you'll be smiling all the way to the bank.

Yes, sorry to hear about your bad experience. I've worked with other people in some sketchy neighborhoods, with no horror stories directly related to me, but I know it can be a cause for concern.

I think I may try to avoid simply saying that I didn't want to come to a specific neighborhood though... Just a thought.

A restaurant can refuse a customer if they have the right signage. You can work with who you want as long as you aren't in some kind of public situation.

I think in this case a relevant question may be "How much 'desirable' business would be lost by not servicing certain areas?"

Maybe the answer is "not much"?
