there is always a delicate line between how much you can put in and how much you can't...a good thing to consider is to look at the signature from an outsiders point of view, someone who is recieving your mails or reading your comments, how will she react when reading the signature...
If the signature is three lines max...thats good...more is tricky and depends on how interesting it is really.

I definitely use this method when commenting on blogs. If it gives me the option of leaving my website, I definitely do that. Free advertising!

Fantastic tip. Should the signature be simplistic or can code be used to add more complex script and color for individuals to notice?

I wondered about that too - Specifically I wondered how a signature could be made to stand out if we've become kind of desensitized to them.

Signatures that are too involved turn me off. A simple line can pique my interest.

A good idea someone gave me was that if you have a blog site that is regularly updated, try not to leave the site name in the signature, but a link to the recent article. That way there is something to read instantly for the receiver...
